· Passport
To
work on a cruise ship, you will be required to have a valid passport (an
identity card is not enough!). The passport should be valid for at least one
year from the date of departure.

Seaman's book
Every
real sailor needs a seaman's book. In the welcome email you will receive after
you have been hired, you will find all the information on the so-called Crew
Check Portal and you will be asked to send us a digital passport photo. There
is a one-time fee for the Seaman's Book, which will be deducted from your first
paycheck.

Medical Certificate / Fitness for Sea
Service
A
medical certificate is mandatory for employment. The health of our crew is our
highest priority. Therefore, you will need to provide proof of fitness for sea
service.

Vaccinations required
YELLOW
FEVER VACCINATION
Since
many ships sail around the world and some countries require vaccinations, a
yellow fever vaccination is required.
MEASLES,
MUMPS, RUBELLA, VARICELLA (HAPAG-LLOYD CRUISES)
Vaccination
against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella is required on some ships. This
applies in particular to the Hapag-Lloyd Cruises fleet.

Medical Insurance
By
working on board, you are automatically covered by health and accident insurance.
In case of medical emergencies, you will be attended to by our doctors in the
ship's hospital.

Safety Certificates / Basic Safety
Training & Crowd Management
Onboard
a cruise ship, the crew has a major responsibility for safety. Working on board
is different in that you spend day and night on the oceans and rivers of the
world. Therefore, you will receive safety training and participate in drills
and exercises throughout your assignment.

C1/D Visa (USA itineraries only) &
Schengen Visa
You
will need a U.S. visa (C1/D visa) to work aboard ocean-going cruise ships. C1/D
visas are required for crew on cruise ships that dock in the USA.
Meanwhile,
the Schengen Visa is a short-stay visa that allows a person to travel to any
member of the Schengen Area for up to 90 days per stay for tourism or business
purposes.

Criminal Record Certificate
For
some positions on board, an extended criminal record certificate is required.
