·       Passport

To work on a cruise ship, you will be required to have a valid passport (an identity card is not enough!). The passport should be valid for at least one year from the date of departure.

    ·       Seaman's book

Every real sailor needs a seaman's book. In the welcome email you will receive after you have been hired, you will find all the information on the so-called Crew Check Portal and you will be asked to send us a digital passport photo. There is a one-time fee for the Seaman's Book, which will be deducted from your first paycheck.

    ·       Medical Certificate / Fitness for Sea Service

A medical certificate is mandatory for employment. The health of our crew is our highest priority. Therefore, you will need to provide proof of fitness for sea service.

    ·       Vaccinations required

    YELLOW FEVER VACCINATION

Since many ships sail around the world and some countries require vaccinations, a yellow fever vaccination is required.

MEASLES, MUMPS, RUBELLA, VARICELLA (HAPAG-LLOYD CRUISES)

Vaccination against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella is required on some ships. This applies in particular to the Hapag-Lloyd Cruises fleet.

    ·       Medical Insurance

By working on board, you are automatically covered by health and accident insurance. In case of medical emergencies, you will be attended to by our doctors in the ship's hospital.

    ·       Safety Certificates / Basic Safety Training & Crowd Management

Onboard a cruise ship, the crew has a major responsibility for safety. Working on board is different in that you spend day and night on the oceans and rivers of the world. Therefore, you will receive safety training and participate in drills and exercises throughout your assignment.

    ·       C1/D Visa (USA itineraries only) & Schengen Visa

You will need a U.S. visa (C1/D visa) to work aboard ocean-going cruise ships. C1/D visas are required for crew on cruise ships that dock in the USA.

Meanwhile, the Schengen Visa is a short-stay visa that allows a person to travel to any member of the Schengen Area for up to 90 days per stay for tourism or business purposes.

    ·       Criminal Record Certificate

For some positions on board, an extended criminal record certificate is required.
